My Buddy Holly Story!
In 1980, I was singing and entertaining at a Holiday Inn in my hometown in Illinois. One night, as I was entering the hotel, I walked past the front desk and an employee handed me a letter that was addressed to me. I was a little early to work, so I sat down and read the handwritten note.
As I began to read the note, I thought to myself that this person had to be a complete nut-job! The writer stated that she was a religious psychic and that she could and had communicated with the spirits of those who had passed. She also said that she had been communicating with the late Buddy Holly, who had told her that he had been trying to help me with my music career my entire life. (I was 18 years old and a senior in high school when Buddy was killed.) At the time of receiving the letter, I was 38 years old.
The lady went on to state that Buddy had communicated to her that I would start writing a lot of songs, start recording them, and make a lot of money very quickly in the music business. She also said that I would lose all the money, almost as fast as I made it.
I'm not going to complete this actual true story at this time, but I will tell you this much: I went back to Nashville in the fall of 1981.
I'm going to write about all of this at a later date, but I will tell you now that I wrote over 60 new songs, stopped drinking (this Thanksgiving will mark 44 years without any alcohol), started my company back up in March of 1982, and wrote four more songs, two single records that made the Billboard Magazine Record Chart.
Did I make a lot of money? Did I lose it? Did I produce several other recording artists? What were the signs that Buddy Holly had always been trying to help me? You're not going to believe it when I finish this amazingly true story!
Update: Buddy continues to send me new song ideas and I am at 1350, as of March 9, 2025.
